    Latest Changes to the UAE Labour Laws

    Earlier, employment contracts were renewed after three years. But from 2023, all workers will have a fixed-term employment contract. However, the private sector and its workers can agree on the contract length, which means the elimination of the three-year contract period.

    Income Protection Scheme

    The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization (MOHRE) in the UAE has decided to provide unemployment insurance to people who were laid off from work. Under the modified law, UAE workers should register with the Involuntary Loss of Employment Scheme. The contribution to this scheme will help them during the first three months of unemployment while they look for new jobs.

    Employment Groups

    There are two categories of employment in the UAE, and each group gets compensation according to their roles and responsibilities at work. The ‘first category,’ earning less than AED16,000 a month, will receive AED10,000 for the first three months of employment. The ‘second category,’ which earns more than AED16,000 will receive AED20,000 a month for the first three months of unemployment.

    Adverse Effect of Not Complying with the Scheme

    If you fail to register with the scheme, you will be imposed AED400 fines and AED200 penalties. However, you can sign up for the scheme in two ways: private sector goals and NAFIS.
