Digital payments keep growing—and sadly, so do scams. The most common tricks include phishing emails or fake websites that copy real services to steal your login or card details, romance scams where someone you met online asks for urgent money, fake job or lottery offers that demand a “processing fee,” impersonation messages from unknown numbers pretending to be family, and overpayment or refund scams where a payment later bounces after you send money back.

The patterns are similar: pressure to act fast, requests to keep things secret, unusual payment methods like gift cards or crypto, poor grammar or odd links, and promises that seem too good to be true. If any of these show up, pause, verify, and never click suspicious links.

To transfer money safely, stick to licensed, encrypted apps, double-check the recipient’s name and number, use strong, unique passwords with two-factor authentication, and keep your phone and apps updated.

Choosing the right platform helps a lot – Botim uses end-to-end encryption, real-time fraud detection, verified recipients, and complies with UAE regulations, with transfers handled securely in-app to reduce third-party risks.

If you suspect a scam, try to cancel the transfer immediately if it’s still pending, contact Botim support and your bank, report the case to UAE authorities (such as the Cyber Crime Department or the My Safe Society app), and inform friends and family so they don’t get targeted. Staying informed and alert is your best defence. When in doubt, move your transactions to a trusted, secure money transfer app to reduce risk and protect your money.
